Katja Rahlwes has been in the fashion business for decades, and started her career as a professional fashion stylist in 1995 after having studied Fashion Design at Studio Bercot in Paris. In 1998 she became chief-fashion editor and photo-editor at BIBA, a major market fashion magazine in Paris. At the same time, she continued to expand her vision as an independent stylist with magazines like Dutch, i-D, Dazed and Confused, Made in USA, Vogue Japan, Index and others. Throughout those years at BIBA she would live a parallel life as a professional stylist and part-time photographer. She said it was, "like having a husband and a lover." In the first years she mainly shot women she wanted to meet and spend time with. Photography had a very important impact on Rahlwes, and made her feel free and independent in her work. Now you can see her work in magazines like French Vogue, Vogue Nippon, Vogue US, Self Service, Purple fashion, i-D, etc. And she has done work for clients such as Gucci, Miu Miu, Chlo , A.P.C., Martin Margiela, Hysteric Glamour, Levi's, and others.

One of my favorite trails in Big Bend National Park leads through a unique geological formation called Grapevine Hills, deep into the desert just north of the Chisos Mountains. Hiking into this unique canyon is a bit like stepping foot on another planet. The rock formations are intriguing to explore and the scale is difficult to comprehend, especially for small creatures like my little friend here. It’s not often that Jack and I hire a trail guide but this little feller came highly recommended and he seemed to find the trail markers with no trouble at all.

Shot taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II set on aperture (Av) priority using an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens tripod mounted. The exposure was taken at 32mm, f/14 for 1/30th of a second at ISO 100 using a Singh-Ray warming polarizer filter. Post capture processing was done in Adobe’s Lightroom 3.
